Antonio Canova Gypsotheca Museum, a marvel of art in the Treviso Hills

The word ‘gypsotheca’ means ‘collection of plaster casts’, and the one in Possagno, the birthplace of the artist Antonio Canova, is the largest monographic Gypsotheca in Europe.

The museum, located in the Treviso hills, houses the great historical and artistic legacy of the greatest exponent of Neoclassicism, which will leave you astonished and breathless, to say the least.

Inside a beautiful and bright architectural structure created by Carlo Scarpa, you can admire the original plaster models of Canova’s works, which represent one of the greatest treasures of our territory.

You will also have the opportunity to go inside the house where the artist was born, where you can appreciate his exquisite paintings, drawings and clothes.

A visit to the Garden, the Library and the Archives will make your experience in this wonderful place even more magical.

To make your visit to Possagno truly complete and memorable, you must visit the splendid Canova temple in neoclassical style, which rises imposingly and majestically from the skyline of the hills.
